Intro
Hallowed House 2024 is a once a year music event done by public sector. This event was a very special moment for us I will probably remember till I die so I wanted to put my feelings and thoughts down as I look back on the whole event. So here it goes. I want to start by providing a little context. Public sector is a collective run primarily by the candyboys and plazachou, people we met through our work as moridori. We were asked to play the event funny enough while I was helping move out plazachou from the very house the event took place. The previous year, I went to Hallowed House 2023 where I first saw the candyboys and Los3r live this was pretty much right after moridori's debut show (Dropping Grades Show). Little did I know at the time we would play the show the following year!
The making of a house show
You can't reasonably do live shows in Ottawa at a venue. Bars often ask for too much upfront to book a place making tickets way too much (or just plain inaccessible) or the venue doesn't actually support arts and culture like it claims (not to say its so over, any place that has an open mic night is definitely worth your time, though the powers that be in this city hate culture). So how you oppose this? Well you do it yourself! We have set up four house shows at this point for parliament 2. But nothing to this caliber, something like hallowed house takes a whole community. Promotion was pretty much all done by public sector and 2factorauthenticator (thank you guys). There was a lot of effort put in this years promo as well as a mixtape was made (thanks for burning and assembling all day sam and trev). The guys did some great work and we sold out day of on such a competitive night. There is something right there to be proud of in itself. But each and every act put their heart into their set. It was an heartfelt honour to not only be able to play but also experience each and every performers set and enjoy it with the friendly and passionate people who took time on a busy saturday to support local art.
The scene
We laugh calling this a 'scene' as by number standards we may be small. But it sticks. First and foremost I want to thank everyone who came. Each and everyone of you that I met are beautiful in your own right and everyone respected the space and the effort that goes into something like this (without having to be reminded or anything it was just a given, it shows you care, which means the world). I heard some of the most kind words about our art ever this night at a time I needed it, but not just that I'm just so thankful to each and everyone who took time to come out. Life is hard, crushing and suffocating yet still we can come together and fight the storm ourselves, its every single one of you who make a difference. This was an event about culture, community and being heard and seen. The music is only secondary to you guys. Shout out to they guy who likes the Deftones, the bass player who thought bpd girlfriend was a good band name, the guy who recognized the one piece sample (Enies Lobby is fr the best arc), stairway hugs and all the crazy cool costumes! Hope to see you guys again but even then if not, thank you from everyone involved.
The acts
I had the pleasure of setting up the stage and sound for this set, in which we did successfully record the whole show! Despite being stressful at times I loved the opportunity it was great being there and having a reason to talk to everyone and get early listens during sound check haha. Everyone put their all into their individual sets, thank you guys each and every one of you inspired us that night.
Sandour
Not only being one letter off my fathers name, I see Ethan everywhere I fucking go yet have never seen him live. Already knew I loved his music from listening to it online. Seeing the act live though was such a treat. Flows like butter and a melody that transports me to a clearer state of mind. I can tell you really care for music and art man its in your blood and in your dedication to your work and community you find yourself in. Check out more music at sandour.xyz, can't wait for the new release.
Glowveins
Finally some real gloom/emo with BASS. This was their debut show and one to remember. Probably the loudest set this night for good reason. Glad I brought the giant bass cab. Got me feeling pretty jumpy not gunna lie, thats usually reserved for only my favourite screamo, which this def is! Great set guys and the costumes fucking WORKED. Ammon even saved the day later when one of the amps died, glad to say this time it wasn't mine. Glowveins is well worth your time, you can find them here and they are also on spotify!. A debut you should be proud of (you went and won the smash tournament 2 days later tho so we have hella beef now, music is still fire tho).

Some of the most catchy and captivating progressions ever dare I say a bit emo inspired too! Great to see some modern rock music that is actually captivating and inspiring. These guys came all the way from toronto which is a trek trust me I know, and were so chill and pleasant despite some of them driving home the same night. You guys put on a great show and survived a Long and McQuade amp fucking dying mid set. So cool. Discovered some really cool music listening to you guys and made some amazing friends. I hope to reach your guys level of proficiency with your instruments one day, each and every member is a TALENT. Wizard 101 on the projector was PEAK too. Find links to their stuff at www.separatormusic.com. Thank you for coming all this way guys, see you in Toronto!
Candyboys
Best set I've ever seen from them TO DATE. The closer was beautiful with zack on the bass and will laying down that gentle finger picking on the guitar. Their debut performance of silver was also a treat. Had everyone smiling and having a good time which they never fail to do. The chemistry and dynamic will and zack have on stage is inspiring as hell. We may be playing driveway basketball but bros fucking ballin. Thanks for all your work setting this up guys, and thanks for everything you guys do. Ya'll have always believed in our art, and been so open, honest and friendly and we only hope to pay that forward. Amazing set guys, this will be one of my favorites, the new stuff is cooking af. Motivated 1%rs are out for the world. Find more candyboys here. Public sector x third culture soon, can't wait.
Los3r
Both master faders maxed, I never seen the guys more in their element. Dulien adjusting the mids to peak perfection. EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU SCREAMING <3!!!! Couldn't ask for a better closer. 12:30am and the night was still electric. Fuck those who put us down, fuck those who tell us who we are, fuck those that gatekeep our potential this was the fucking moment. DIY is about making it despite all odds and los3r sent that to the stars tonight. Had a herstory debut that was so special and another noah jumping in??? If the floor was caving in it was then and there. Thank god for our sakes it didn't those rotted 200 year old wooden beams locked in just for us I'm sure. They said this was the best they sounded over the monitors, I agree, but it was 90% vibes doing it that night, the room and energy carried the waves. Find los3r here and check out their solo work if you haven't. Geunf had a recent (as of today) interview and herstory recently dropped a dope new track and dulien is always cooking and dropping full course meals every release. Of course 3 star dream is well worth your time, a topper for 2024 for me and maybe you as well!
The people
It's not only the music that makes this happen but theres a lot of people that put a lot of hard work behind the scenes. I hope I get everyone but anyway here it all goes with the upmost love guys!! Thank you to sam for burning cd and assembling the mixtape you were much needed throughout, your energy keeps me locked in :D. Thanks to trev for security and doors and keeping everything professional haha. Thank you plazachou for all your work behind the scenes managing, and making the night go smoothly, your dedication to this community we are building inspires me greatly. Thank you nick for doing some of the coolest tattoos of all time, some of the luckiest people got something to remember for sure, thank you so much for the videos you made for promotion as well, some of the coolest video art ever and somehow it has the words moridori and our music in it, fucking amazing work dude more people NEED TO SEE IT, make sure to follow 2factorauthenticator and support everything this guy does :). Thank you sean for bringing the energy, highest powerlevel in the room for sure, never stop leveling. Thank you erin for your kind words, I needed that especially then. Thank you quinn for your kind words as well then immediately getting everyone inside saving us from the opps and getting the show back in gear after the intermission, hella fucking based. Thank you VANNE, I have used your pictures throughout this write up and not to mention the amazing art you did for us, I love your style and your drawings are wonderful and again the pictures omg, thank you for all you do and the love and joy you offer the world! Thank you to adil for filming literally everything, 6 hours of everything, non stop, no breaks, filming everything, what you capture is the memories we will all leave behind, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your dedication, you outdid yourself, to make films requires an iron resolve, you proved that you have more than enough. Thank you to bea for supporting me, holding me up in my toughest moments and helping me everyday to achieve my dreams, I love you. Thank you kim for supplying the best bass gear and guitar gear I will ever use, its this stuff you gave forward that empowers not only me but others as well, some how from 6 hours away you contribute more to the underground ottawa scene than most club owners can say running their 10 year strong business here. Thank you grandma, grandpa, deb and my entire family, it was directly your support and love that was able to make everyone here sound at their best, the mics and mixer gave us all live albums and enabled us to produce all of this ourselves without the chains of some evil money making machine, thank you guys, we are the most blessed in this department and no words can describe our gratitude, love ya'll. Thank you to everyone that performed, we have never been more inspired. Thank you to those who came and those who wanted to come, what we build together will last forever.
Follow public sector we had a lot of mixtapes (CDs) left over and we wanna sell them so stay tuned to their account to get your hands on one.
Thank you for reading this far. I have nothing more to say but express my hope and excitement for the future. Art is hard and painful but its the only thing that provides true belonging and purpose. For moridori art is essential for survival. Thank you for your love and support, now onto bringing this forward to the future. See you soon.
With love, from moridori <3
P.S if anyone was wondering I (q) dressed up as Quote from cave story (one of the best games of all time). I matched with bea who did curly brace. It was actually so cool to perform as one of my fav characters of all time. Kaz went as a crow mauler from fear and hunger another amazing game.
