The 498,516,889 Dead Virgins Great Postering of July 2024

Still laughing to this day hahahahahahah

Below you will find posters we put up in July 2024 and an archive of a reddit thread posted on r/ottawa July 21st 2024. This was in response to some posters we put up to promote a show we were doing at Avant Garde Bar, that ended up getting cancelled likely due to this promotion. Although, the owner stated they cancelled the show because "our lyrics promote violence", we booked the show at the start of the month, got dropped later around July 26th. We find this whole thing very funny. Thanks to all ya'll realcels who repped the band love ya keep truth-maxxing! Some real gems below, enjoy!

Seen these posters directing people to “deadcel.me” with a picture of Jordan Peterson around Centretown. The website seems to advertising a concert in August with this local Ottawa “incelcore” music band called like “400,000,000 dead virgins”. Their website has a bunch of edgy incel rhetoric and jokes? about women not being allowed to their concerts. Also references to Elliot Rodger. I am perplexed.

  1. Is this a real band?
  2. Is this an ironic internet culture thing or are these people actually misogynistic/pro-incel violence?
  3. Are there any issues with hateful incel rhetoric spreading in Ottawa? Does this have traction at the universities?

lol they updated the site to include a link to your post

lordisofjhoalt, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 09:45 (11)

entirely ironic. went to a show. all their girlfriends were there and plenty other well-adjusted university kids. drummer screamed he got no bitches and immediately after the show started making out with his girl. they played smash bros after.

Character_Goal7411, on Tue 2024-07-23 at 10:16 (3)

Anyone who's actually been to any of their shows will know that those women are clearly just federally employed agents meant to keep an eye on these extremely dangerous and at risk individuals. Thank God our wonderful government stepped in or these men would've more than likely commited violent acts of domestic terrorism

lordisofjhoalt, on Tue 2024-07-23 at 19:03 (2)

keep on truemaxxing! last show this ger* shane put me in a headlock in the mosh pit, and after the set he enticed me toward smoking recreational marijuana with his cronies. entrapment!

CarletonCanuck, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 17:26 (132)

Seems like it's some indie band

Based on their aesthetic, they've had their brains rotted through via unsupervised 4chan consumption from a young age, but based off a quick look they don't seem dangerous or anything, probably a mix of irony/overconsumption of that particular type of Internet content.

mellywheats, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 18:42 (71)

the problem is that even tho the band themselves may just be unserious or don’t seem dangerous doesn’t mean that their audience will be safe .

PotentialPizza6141, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 21:53 (13) [comment removed by moderator]

I second the brain rot. But I commend them. I had to drop out from this type of internet culture in 2017 because I just couldn't continue being a pro at it while also trying to actually live my life like a normal citizen.

This guy is definitely 100% ironic for anyone who's genuinely curious.

durpfursh, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 12:25 (1, edited) [comment removed by moderator]

> definitely 100% ironic

I'm not sure how anyone could look at that website and not instantly get this.

PotentialPizza6141, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 19:07 (1) [comment removed by moderator]

It took me watching like 2 of the videos on the bottom to get the hint.

The guy posted some real gems that only a true mentally ill teen in the late 2010's would understand.

Major_Job_2498, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 18:35 (2)

Most younger people just talk like anti-social dweebs from 4chan these days. Public safety concern.

wyllie7, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 17:25 (40)

I’m like 99% sure it’s a real band but the incel imagery is just an ironic thing to be provocative. But with incel rhetoric it’s so drenched in irony that it’s like hard to tell. Maybe I’m just being gullible.

respekmaauthority, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 18:41 (26)

Check out their instagram. It's 100% a joke.

HaanSoIo, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 13:52 (1)

Yeah whenever canadians see someone or something political or a certain buzzword majority believe it's real and never satire

SkidMania420, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 22:41 (6)

Lol, incelcore.. 🤣

ooverzealous, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 19:42 (42)

it is indeed a real punk band. they’re actually super chill guys. its all a joke, they don’t take themselves super seriously

darkbrews88, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 01:17 (13) [comment removed by moderator]

Yes but we are still outraged anyway!

durpfursh, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 16:21 (1) [comment removed by moderator]

Seems like their marketing plan is working.

sometimes_sydney, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 07:45 (6)

That’s what I figured. A lot of things like that tend to turn out to be ironic. Like we called our apartment (full of trans people) the Ben Shapiro fan club for a while, and even put that as our wifi ssid

3owls-inatrenchcoat, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 08:32 (3)

I love this, well done

NegScenePts, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 20:35 (10)

Punk is dead if this is what it's become.

Krazy-catlady, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 22:15 (25)

You are wrong. Punk is totally about mocking the culture and politics of it’s time

NegScenePts, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 22:25 (15)

Maybe by mocking the establishment and authority, but not by parroting a subgroup of people already universally shunned. That's called Satire.

Electronifyy, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 06:46 (2)

Lots of punk is self-consciously tongue in cheek. We look at punk as inherently and only anti establishment / left-wing but that’s not necessarily true. An example of this would be the Ramones, one of the biggest punk bands of their time, have only one even vaguely political song. Punk covers a lot more than you think it does, satire included

NegScenePts, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 08:19 (4)

I don't think a band advertising themselves as 'incelcore', is anything other than a comedy band. Sure, they may be competent musicians, Steel Panther is an AMAZING example of how a satire band can be genuine...but they're lampooning the genre of hair metal and it's obvious. If a 'punk' band has to attract attention by advertising themselves as a bunch of incels who don't allow women at their shows...they're just trying to create a bunch of misplaced outrage to drum up attention.

A lot of the OG bands (Sex Pistols, NY Dolls, etc) had trollish appearances but the difference is they genuinely behaved in a manner to back it up. Even the Ramones, who basically lampooned the entire punk scene by looking the part but played three chord 50's pop songs at an increased tempo. They were taking jabs at the Beatles, a manufactured pop band, AND the whole 'look at us, we're young and angry' punk scene. They didn't go around purposely pretending to be a bunch of disgusting misogynists who revere people who murdered innocent women because they wouldn't sleep with them, just to get attention. There's a big difference between acting out in a way counter to the mainstream, and acting out in a 4chan-esque cosplay of awful shit that is only going to be obvious to other 4chan-esque cosplay trolls.

Tongue-in-cheek would be NOFX from the early 90s...not Skrewdriver in the 80s.

ashymatina, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 10:18 (4)

How were the Beatles a manufactured pop band? They met in grade school, honed their skills by playing shitty clubs in Hamburg for years, and wrote all their own music lmao

NegScenePts, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 10:37 (1)

Their entire image was cultivated and moulded by the record label for their first album. There's a reason they were not breaking young girls hearts by the millions before Twist and Shout came out. They eventually had the star power to do their own thing but without the label creating their image...they would have languished in obscurity. Twist and Shout made them famous in the UK and the label needed a way to get North America on board. 4 young, 'handsome' british boys that sang pop music...there's a reason their concerts were 95% teenage girls. Justin Beiber, The Spice Girls, NSync, NKOTB, it's all based on the Beatles path to success. Sorry to burst the bubble of 'hardworking english boys who also happened to be musical geniuses and just all happened to dress the same with the same haircut'.

ashymatina, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 10:40 (3)

Sorry buddy, “manufactured image” =/= “manufactured band”. The image is irrelevant and everyone already knows that about the beginning of their career. Ultimately they still wrote the music at that point in their career unlike any of the other pop artists you listed. that’s the important part.

NegScenePts, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 11:12 (0)

...Who was Twist and Shout written by?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TwistandShout
Yeah, it was a single cover song, and they did write all their own music...but they didn't write ALL their hit songs ;).

The Beatles are secondary to my original statement, ultimately, and not really something I care about. I feel they were a manufactured boy band, designed to appeal to young girls, and my take on the documentaries is exactly that. I've never been a fan, and John Lennon was a shit human being after he got famous, so hey...there's that :).

Other_Molasses2830, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 12:07 (2)

Punk's not dead, it just smells that way.

NeverStopReeing, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 13:46 (2)

First we had "Powerviolence" now we have "Incelcore"

djamborini, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 21:12 (2)

Character_Goal7411, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 20:56 (5)

yeoltiger, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 18:34 (0)

Yeah I saw the poster and went to the site and it said avant garde bar. I might bring a girl there with me to go and do some trolling

pot88888888s, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 21:47 (13)

This might not be a safe location for her.

tomgis, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 19:53 (7)

(Note: I did not archive this comment, from memory it was something about it making sense for our band to play at a soviet themed bar)

calciumpotass, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 22:36 (5)

4chan incels = nazis

Soviets defeated the nazis

Makes sense

0_onAScaleOf_1to10, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 11:52 (1)

1) Soviet Russia was more feminist than contemporary Western nations

2) Avant Garde is probably the best bar in Ottawa

ValoisSign, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 12:18 (2, edited)

I think it's disturbing how much these fringe ideologies have been normalized that it's even a question whether it's a joke.

I think it is a joke, the text is a pretty big tell (self conscious amount of buzzwords with direct quotes of Ben Shapiro and J Peterson - two fairly mainstream people everyone associates with the hard right) and it's pretty self deprecating and doesn't actually hit on that many incel talkint points. The danger is that all the serious fringe hate group types use irony already for plausible deniability so the risk is always that the audience takes it seriously, creates a bubble around the band, then the lines just blur and blur.

You gotta be really careful with irony these days, because even if you're being ironic there's a lot of people who aren't really - and it's those people that ruin it by teaching their followers to treat irony as a wink and a nudge. That said I don't think it's wrong to joke about, you just have to be really careful how you do it so as not to end up spreading their ideas for them. Haven't listened to their demos so I can't really comment on how well they pull it off.

Honestly if it's all meant to be making fun of incels and the people going know it, it could be a fun night. Much as it can go very wrong, I do think we need to have more cruel satire towards hate groups. Take back irony, so to speak.

HappyFunTimethe3rd, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 12:51 (3)

I'm not surprised followers of Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro find it very hard to get laid. Who would be a follower of those weanies?

ValoisSign, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 15:31 (1)

I would imagine you're right. Those two fascinate me but not in a good way.

I like how Ben Shapiro keeps changing his image to look more manly and still always looks like the biggest nerd in the campus conservative group.

Peterson's social media on the other hand could be a case study in radicalisation. He was already being anti trans when he misrepresented C16 but made it sound respectable on the correct assumption that no one would read the law, now he writes weird violent haikus, posts scary clown pics with "die woke die" type captions and seems to flip out whenever he sees a post involving a woman (trans or not). It's actually kind of scary to think this is coming from someone who could have retired a respected professor.

HappyFunTimethe3rd, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 23:24 (1)

They have a mix of good and bad ideas but they're both weanies as people. They both made a career whining about things in high pitched voices. Which isn't very manly.

Pinkxel, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 21:34 (2)

LOL the 90's called and wants their website back! Dear lord, my eyes! xD

I honestly doubt from the pictures in the gallery that they're harmful in any way. It's just a thing. Nobody gets shocked any more by the Satan worshipping thing, so you have to get 'edgy' to shock people. lol.

omegaaf, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 22:27 (4)

Yeah i've found the assaulting myspace aesthetic is back lmao

yeoltiger, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 18:58 (2)

This is pretty problematic, as a young dude on social media, I see lots of incel/looksmaxxing posts even though I’m not part of that community and it seems have become pretty mainstream rather than a niche subculture. Bad things are to come if we don’t address this male loneliness “epidemic”

omegaaf, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 22:30 (-7)

What I don't get is how are people this bad at getting laid. Like don't get me wrong I was a complete retard (I can use that word, I am one) when I was younger and would constantly cockblock myself, but I eventually figured it out, I never became bitter and spiteful of it, I knew I had to be a better person, to love myself before others could.

Like come on. Its not women, its you.

insanekakuja, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 12:58 (1)

Seems like a heavy internet culture band they sound pretty good too, obviously some satire if you know

OverTheHorizon613, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 15:53 (1)

I made the mistake of checking out their “music” holy hell was that ever terrible. Did they record it on a 1st gen iPod touch or something??

Sausage Fest 2024

ontario_cat, on Tue 2024-07-23 at 07:09 (1)

Glad if it's a satire thing and not a real thing. Imagine that many incels gathering in Ottawa. Is there even that many incels? I know the community is bigger than most think. Thanks for posting OP.

Character_Goal7411, on Tue 2024-07-23 at 10:13 (2)

A bunch of outcast wanks. No females would wannabe around that hate.

half the people at their shows are girlies lmfao

Neat-Satisfaction233, on Sun 2024-07-21 at 23:14 (-12)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention seems fun. Also you seem to use misogynistic and incel as interchangeable lol women can be incels too. Women who only get sex are incels so its equal opportunity lol. idk man you seem really hateful single 30 something year old, who wants to blame their problems on anybody else rather than realizing you fked up.

0_onAScaleOf_1to10, on Mon 2024-07-22 at 11:55 (1)
